After a much needed break, my maternity leave has come to an end and I'm back into the swing of things - ready to start my wedding season off next weekend! I'm so excited, and even more so having one of my closest friends shooting beside me this wedding season! Hilda will be filling the shoes of Kristie this year as my assistant and I'm certain she'll do an amazing job! I can't wait to get the season started and underway! This is Hilda... Awesome friend, awesome photographer.

Having been friends with Janine for over 14 years, the topic of meeting "the one" has often come up and rightly so for girls who wanted to make sure they found the right one before hitting the chapel in running shoes to meet the wrong one.
It was not only the happiest day for her when her "Mr Right" at last proposed... it must have been his as well, but it was also my happiest day! And when the question of being her matron of honour popped up you can be sure it fast became my next happiest day. Janine, and Bruce, your wedding in June is going to be one for the books and we simply cannot wait to share in the celebrations with you. For 2016 I thought it would be a good idea to enroll myself in something that could challenge me in terms of the subject matter I photograph on a normal day. Being the Lifestyle Photographer and Designer for Sutherlands Home Furnishing as my full time job I can photograph up to 50, sometimes more, beautiful pieces of furniture each week... My lifestyle and wedding photography gives me a nice break away from those confines allowing me to interact with some really amazing people. But I still feel like I need to branch out even more so that I can learn new things about me, and my photography, and my camera, as I photograph new things.
I signed up for the "52 Week Photography Challenge" which is open to everyone really - you just have to join the facebook group. The first weeks challenge is "self portrait". For a list of other topics in the challenge visit this link. My rationale for my submission this week: Another photographer who prefers being on the side of the camera that captures rather than the side being captured. I'm all the way from South Africa and in this "self portrait" I am sitting on my bedroom floor in the pretty Midlands of Kwazulu Natal. Being of the mindset to avoid the front of the lens still, I thought to portray a distorted image of myself. 3 pics taken with my 50mm (1.8 ISO320 1/250) layered on top of each other at different opacities in post. Self conscious me thought it a good idea that on top of the distortion, black and white would do me well in terms of hiding my "just woken up face and hair". #Dogwood52 #Dogwoodweek1 Why not join in the challenge... Visit this link: 52 Week Photography Challenge Whilst we'll all be making resolutions and attempting to make a success of the fresh start 2016 offers - our dear friends Wesley and Lieschen will be preparing to welcome their sweet angel to this earth. Little Benjamin is due early January and we're all eagerly awaiting his arrival and trying our damnedest to contain our excitement. We can't wait!
Liesch and Wes hate being in the spotlight and I feel honoured to have been able to capture a few moments of preggy Lieschen looking as radiant as ever. Aside from being allowed to capture some moments - I am thrilled to be able to share some of these with you. No two parents look more beautiful and at peace right now. In South Africa we don't necessarily have a "thanksgiving" day like the Americans... Some trendsetters use this date as an excuse to throw a dinner party with friends and give thanks I guess... but like many other South Africans, we use today, Christmas day, to share our thanks with those who've touched our lives! For me, as we spoil our loved ones, I can't help but realise how blessed I am and am forced to take stock of everything that's happened throughout the year.
This year we were part of many weddings and I am always blown away by how quickly I become wrapped up into the family and friends tie. From each of the weddings I have photographed I have gained friendships that will last a lifetime and for this I am truly grateful. I don't want to say "thank you to all my clients" as I have never for a second felt it so. I would therefore rather say thank you to the friends I have made - for your support and encouragement and continual inclusion of me in so many facets of your lives. I am honoured and blessed beyond measure. I hope that your Christmas is filled with much love and laughter, and pretty Christmas lights! One of my biggest blessings of this year was the birth of our baby boy, Harrison. For most of you, I will have photographed your wedding as a preggy fairy and I guess I owe you a special thanks as well for the understanding and patience in dealing with my preggy porridge brain! Luckily my symptoms weren't as severe as others I've heard of but in the minor instances where the baby bump overshadowed all rational thought and reason, thank you for putting up with me! Much love, Candice (and Rowan and Harrison). We're running a special on bookings for next years weddings. If you book your 2016 wedding before 30 November 2015, you will pay 2015 rates. In August I had the honour of photographing the Fourie wedding at iNsingizi Game Lodge & Spa. It was also to be my last wedding for 2015 before I head off on maternity leave. The setting couldn't have been more perfect and the couple could not have been any more in love. I'm happy to finally share their blog post with you, as I am sure they are too! Please feel free to leave a message of congratulations for the happily married couple!
Gerty popped in for a visit a few weeks ago and we did a bit of a mini treasure the dress session to capture a few more intimate moments of her alone in her most beautiful dress. We planned long in advance to get together and our dates just never seemed to coincide. Eventually we managed to arrange a date where we were both available, as well as a make-up artist friend who was willing to do hair and make-up for the little session. On the morning of our planned shoot, Lynne called through with a tummy bug and another friend, Amy, stepped in to save the day and do Gety's hair and makeup. It meant the world to me to have Amy with me on the morning armed with a trusty GHD and an assortment of makeup artistry goodies to make Gerty look and feel as close to her special day as possible - thank you Amy, again! You were an honest superstar!
